Introducing Aviation-In-Detail. Another, another new group. Yes, I know I have a problem. :)

This time though the subject is a little different from the usual. This one is all about detail and creativity within aviation photography. As such we will not be accepting submissions if the entire aircraft is within frame. I want this group to be a big resource for close detail images. The aircraft can be on the ground or in flight, but close up detail is a must.

I'm afraid for traditional artists and modellers, this may not be the group for you, unless you can show me work that fits in with the group. However I'd like everybody to feel like they can join, even if just to enjoy the great work in the galleries. Of course modellers may find the detail images very useful anyway.

So come along and join if this is your thing. I think I've got the join requests sorted this time too. :D

Greetings once more.

I was wondering whether it´d be worth opening a new folder in here (and in the group on the P-40) on "cartoons and other funny stuff".

Thanks.

I´ve just found out this group and I´m considering joining in- it looks so gripping, even though I don´t have much Spitfire-related art (basically, shots on scale models of mine and drawings...).

On another note, is it there over here any group for Curtiss P-40-fans, or not yet?

Thank you in advance.

Sorry for the late reply, for some reason this message didn't appear in my inbox. Anyway, thanks for the kind words toward the group. The group was started as a useful resource, documenting as many airworthy and preserved Spitfires as we could from deviant art images. As you can see from our bulging galleries, that was more successful than I ever imagined. Admittedly I myself have contributed to many of the folders as I am fortunate to have regular experiences with almost all of the UKs airworthy and preserved Spitfires. However I was impressed with just how many of the worlds other Spitfires we managed to document.

As for P-40s. I do not believe I have personally seen a group dedicated to the type. It would be nice if there was to be one, but I think between Spitfires, Mustangs, Mosquitos and BF-109s perhaps it is best for that partifular fan group to be started by another member. I'd gladly join and affiliate my groups with it though, if you were thinking of starting that group yourself. :)

Thanks for the info.

Warbirds like the Spitfire are rare, rare indeed to be seen where and around where I live, save for an air-show by the end of July every year :P So far, when it comes to WWII fighters, we´ve only seen a P-51D and a P-40N (of which I have some videos in YouTube), but the air-show has its own website, where fans can suggest participants, and some of them have insisted on a Spitfire (or a FW-190, or a Bf-109/ Buchón) more than once. The problem, as it seems, is that a Spitfire seems more expensive to hire even than a Mustang, and the organizers have to handle it with a limited budget. In spite of that, the last three or four years have been pretty cool.

Apart from that, and as I said before, my own "Spitstuff" consists on some scale models and a few drawings.

As for opening a group on the P-40, it sounds interesting for real, and I do have some ideas on how to organize its gallery, but I guess that to do that I need some premium membership or something like that, and I´m afraid that I´m not in the mood of wasting money just for that. *rolls eyes*

Feel free to join even if you don't have much to contribute.

No group on DA for just the P-40 to my knowledge..

Do you know which Spitfire Brad Pitt owns?  I've looked around but I can't find anything about as to what mark or number it is.  I heard it's based in England but who knows...

Sorry Just seen the message.

If I'm honest I am not sure, information about it has been kept rather secret. But I did hear rumours a while ago that it may well be this example. She now flies from Goodwood down near chichester with the Boultbea Academy, and I also heard rumours that this is where Brad Pitt was to keep his aircraft so it would tie up. However it is not registered to Brad Pitt so who knows. I'll look into it and see if I can uncover any info.

I can understand why they'd want to keep it all under the radar.  Probably for the best no one seems to know which one is his.  Thanks for the info tho.

It will come out in the open eventually, these things cannot be hidden forever. After all, like most enthusiasts in the UK I know of the location of every Spitfire currently airworthy in the UK, there are no airframes unaccounted for. In my honest opinion if he really has bought a Spitfire, and it has been widely reported that he has. And if that Spitfire is already in the UK, the chances are that it can only be a couple of airframes. Those being the example I showed you and a very rare two seat Mk.VIII that made her post restoration flight this week and is now at Biggin Hill to continue her test flying, but I am not sure who actually owns her. Every other Spitfire in the UK I could tell you who owns them and where they fly from.

Of course there is always a chance that he has bought a Spitfire that has either been bought from overseas and not arrived in the UK yet, or an example that has not yet finished restoration.
